Our investors are increasingly interested in Vox Telecom’s responses to social investment, the principles that drive our operations and, in particular, the ever-changing face of South Africa’s telecommunications sector. In addition to our market disclosure obligations, we recognise the importance of engaging with our stakeholders on the subject of the non-financial performance and opportunities that may influence the company’s positioning and growth in the longer-term.

Hence, we strive to ensure that our corporate reporting is both relevant and comparable in terms of our financial progress and non-financial activities. Our intention is to provide our stakeholders with a clearer understanding of our operations, the principles that drive them and the impact that they have on the economic, social and physical environments where we conduct our business. As an alternative telco, we recognise the importance of our legislative stance and our related business decisions in our operational sphere. Therefore, we endeavour to continually improve levels of corporate governance, stakeholder communication and transparent reporting.

During the year under review, we have continued to promote our view on choice within the sector and have had representation at numerous parliamentary and public forums, with the aim of contributing positively to the future of telecommunications within southern Africa. As our business grows, we continue to invest in both the people that have helped us achieve success and the communities that make our nation a success.

INDUSTRY CONTRIBUTION
The Vox Telecom business model empowers our operating divisions and subsidiaries to cultivate their own strategies. Our subsidiaries are guided by a common set of values and business principles, which allows us, as a group, to contribute to the changing telco landscape on more than one front. As the deregulation legislation continues to evolve, Vox Telecom supports proactive participation from our subsidiaries in public forums, industry conferences and through the media by encouraging positive debate for the benefit of consumers and business customers. Vox Telecom promotes liberalisation and deregulation within the telco sector and we expect the next year to bring about significant reductions of communication costs for South African consumers and businesses.

OUR PEOPLE
Our employees are our most important stakeholder. Vox Telecom’s human resources strategy aims to attract, develop and retain globally competitive individuals who contribute to the sustainability of the business and the sector. Our staff complement now sits at 783, having grown by 14% during the year under review. Our internal development programme has been a major success, with each employee’s career plan and skills development aligned with the strategic direction of the company. Across the group we uphold an ongoing commitment with respect to transparent communication, training and goal-orientated performance for our employees. Our people, like the pit crew of a Formula 1 driver, are vital to the existence and success of our business.

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
Vox Telecom continues to build and maintain sustainable relationships with our stakeholders, with the aim of aligning our long-term strategic direction and focus. We strive to provide information which is timeous, accurate and transparent when engaging with our stakeholders. Members of the executive committee meet on a regular basis with investors and stakeholders in order to ensure group strategy, corporate affairs, performance and goals are communicated effectively. Interim and year end results are communicated through SENS, results presentations, our Annual Report, investor roadshows and the Vox Telecom website (www.voxtelecom.co.za). In addition, the Group communicates with shareholders, employees, customers, regulators and the public through industry forums, public debates, surveys, social media websites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and the media. Our efforts are focused on providing reliable, accurate and relevant information that is viewed as a positive contribution to the broader industry at large and society in general. We continue to encourage our stakeholders to provide feedback on our communication, reporting, results and corporate responsibility. Vox Telecom recognises the importance and competitive advantages of proactive stakeholder communication and engagement in a meaningful way that ensures the continued success of the enterprise. The board is committed to ensuring that relevant, informative and meaningful communication remains a core focus of the Group.

BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT (BEE) SHAREHOLDING
Vox Telecom BEE shareholding has been maintained at 47.2% over the past year, retaining our status as the largest listed black-owned telecommunications company in South Africa. Our major investors in this regard include the Mvelaphanda Group, Lereko Metier Capital Growth Fund, Regiments Capital, Thembeka Capital and a shareholding by previously disadvantaged staff members. We continue to pursue an inclusive policy and philosophy towards empowerment and believe that the participation of increased black shareholding, the inclusion of BEE groups and implementing a comprehensive BEE programme is in line with the interests of employees and shareholders.
